چکیده

This paper shows how action theories, expressed in an extended version of the languageB, can be naturally encoded using Prioritized Default Theory. We also show how prioritizeddefault theory can be extended to express preferences between rules. This extension providesa natural framework to introduce different types of preferences in action theories—preferencesbetween actions and preferences between final states. In particular, we demonstrate how thesepreferences can be expressed within extended prioritized default theory. We also discuss howthis framework can be implemented in terms of answer set programming.

Reasoning about Actions in Prioritized Default Theory

This paper shows how action theory in the language B can be naturally encoded using prioritized default theory. We also show how prioritized default theory can be extended to express preferences between rules and formulae. This extension provides a natural framework to introduce preferences over trajectories in B. We illustrate how these preferences can be expressed and how they can be represen...

A Cumulative-Model Semantics for Dynamic Preferences on Assumptions

Explicit preferences on assumptions as used in prioritized circumscription [McCarthy, 1986; Lifschitz, 1985; Grosof, 1991] and preferred subtheories [Brewka, 1989] provide a clear and declarative method for defining preferred models. In this paper, we show how to embed preferences in the logical theory itself. This gives a high freedom for expressing statements about preferences. Preferences ca...

A Modal Characterization of Defeasible Deontic Conditionals and Conditional Goals

We explore the notions of permission and obligation and their role in knowledge representation, especially as guides to action for planning systems. We first present a simple conditional deontic logic (or more accurately a preference logic) of the type common in the literature and demonstrate its equivalence to a number of modal and conditional systems for default reasoning. We show how the tec...

Digital Systems Laboratory Series A: Research Reports Priorities and Nonmonotonic Reasoning Priorities and Nonmonotonic Reasoning

Many knowledge-based systems use some kind of priorities for controlling their reasoning. In this work, autoepistemic logic is extended with priorities. Priorities are formalized as partial orders of formulae that express that some formulae are preferred to others. Priorities increase the set of conclusions that can be inferred from a set of formulae, because the number of cases where connicts ...

Toward a Logic for Qualitative Decision Theory

We present a logic for representing and reasoning with qualitative statements of preference and normality and describe how these may interact in decision making under uncertainty. Our aim is to develop a logical calculus that employs the basic elements of classical decision theory, namely probabilities, utilities and actions, but exploits qualitative information about these elements directly fo...
